One of the most beautiful parts of childhood is the ability to believe in magic. Whether it’s meeting a favourite princess, superhero or storybook character, those moments feel real to children and that sense of wonder is something truly special.
At Starkidz, we see first-hand how powerful these experiences can be. With a little planning, parents can help protect that magic and make character visits even more memorable.
Create a Safe Space for Characters to Arrive
One of the easiest ways to protect the illusion is to make sure there’s a private space for characters to arrive and prepare. This could be a spare room, kitchen, hallway or staff area at a venue. Having a place where characters can get ready and enter the party unseen helps keep the experience believable for little ones.
Avoid Early Peeks 👀
Children are naturally curious, so it’s a good idea to gently keep them occupied while characters arrive or leave. Our party hosts will always do their upmost to prevent any accidental early sightings that might break the magic, so make sure that you are not pointing out any pre-party movements from our characters!
Encourage the Story
Helping children stay immersed can be as simple as joining in with the story. If a child asks questions about where a character came from or how they arrived, playful answers keep the magic alive. A little imagination from adults goes a long way!
Let the Characters Lead
During the visit, allow the entertainers to lead the interaction. Our characters are trained to stay in role, respond in character and guide conversations in a way that feels authentic and exciting for children.
Mind the Details
Small details make a big difference. Things like:
• Referring to entertainers by their character name
• Avoiding real names in front of children
Prepare Older Children
If there are older children present who may already understand the truth, it can be helpful to have a quiet chat beforehand. Encouraging them to help protect the magic for younger siblings and friends can make them feel involved and responsible.
Remember: Magic Is in the Memories
Childhood belief doesn’t last forever and that’s okay. What does last are the memories of joy, excitement and wonder. By protecting the magic, even for just a little while longer, you’re helping create moments your children will treasure for years to come.
At Starkidz, we’re proud to help bring these magical moments to life and we love working alongside parents to make each experience truly unforgettable ✨
